Message of Christianity

ever wondered?

Ever wondered what God thinks of you? Ever wondered what Christians actually believe? Ever wondered why God seems so distant?’

Read on to see the message of Christianity explained, known as ‘the gospel’, which literally means ‘the good news’.

In the beginning

The bible says that we were created to be in relationship with God, to know him personally and rule the earth.

Genesis 1:27-28: ‘So God created man in his own image…male and female he created them…. And God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it.’’

Our own way

However, each of us has decided to go our own way, to ignore God’s ways and do the very things he told us not to do. The bible calls this ‘sin’.

Romans 3:23: ‘All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God’

Separated from God

Our sin separates us from God and no matter how many good deeds we try and do, we are still sinners by nature. Since God is just and holy, we are destined to be separated from Him for eternity.

Romans 6:23: ‘The wages if sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus.’

The good news

But in his love for us, God has done something about it. He sent his Son Jesus to earth, to live a perfect life and be crucified on the cross, taking the punishment for our sin that we deserved. God poured out his anger against our sin on Jesus, not upon on us.

Romans 5:8: ‘But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.’

The response

This is great news! All we need do is turn away from our old life and turn to God. This is done in 3 steps:

Admit- admit that you are a sinner in need of forgiveness.
Believe- believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that on the cross, he took the punishment that your sin deserved.
Commit- commit your life to him. Be baptised and filled with the Spirit and join a local church, where you can be helped to grow in your faith.

Romans 10:9: ‘If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.’

Acts 2:41: ‘So those who received his word were baptised and there were added that day about three thousand souls.’
