Where do i go from here?

Penny

From birth I was brought up in children's homes. At 29 I was a single mum, divorced and with a string of broken relationships behind me. I was desperately lonely with no friends or family. I was increasingly dependant on drink and drugs and I could see no future at all. I used to ask myself "where do I go from here?"

Why can't I be happy like that?

I was working in a kennels when the business changed hands. The new owner was friendly, happy and had a lovely family. I used to think, why couldn't I be happy like that? Then one day she started to tell me about Jesus and how he had changed her life. I was fascinated! She gave me a book, which told the story of a girl with a similar background to mine and how Jesus had changed her life. When I got home that night, I read the book right through. It described how she had asked Jesus to come into her life and I knew that that was what I wanted to do. So there and then I prayed and asked Jesus to come and take over my life. Somehow I knew that Jesus was there with me and had heard me, I was really talking to him.

A couple of days later my boss gave me a Bible which I started to read from the gospel of Matthew. As I read, Jesus became more real to me. I was starting to get to know and understand who he was. I had a burning desire to go to church and meet with other Christians, which I did the following Sunday.

Purpose and Hope!

Having given my life to Jesus I didn’t want to drink, take drugs or swear anymore. I felt somehow “clean”. Suddenly getting to know Jesus and obeying His Word in the Bible gave me a new sense of purpose and hope. I had found a friend - someone who would always be with me, love me and who I could trust with my life. Knowing Jesus and living for him has brought a joy to my life I never thought I could have!

What about you?

Your circumstances might be quite different to mine, but one thing is true for all of us; our lives don’t work as they are supposed to without God. But God hasn’t left us without hope. Jesus came to rescue us from the things which overwhelm us, including our own mistakes and wrong doing. He lives to help us through our day to day lives. Whilst he already knows everything about us, he loves us! And the good news is, you can reach out to him just as I did with a simple prayer from your heart. If you would like to find out more about Jesus and how he can help you, why not come along to my church – I would really love to hear from you!
