I was my own boss

Nick

After leaving the Parachute Regiment, I began working in security teams for Arab diplomats. On the surface things looked good – lots of work and lots of money. I was my own boss. Beneath the surface, however, I was selfish, morose, violent and drank heavily.

If You’re Really There…

Even now, it’s difficult to understand how it happened. One night I had been feeling depressed, got drunk, got into some trouble and had been arrested. As I sat in the Interview Room waiting to be charged, I saw how my life had been falling apart. I remembered what a friend had told me about how all of our lives are messed-up because we all do our own thing instead of what God created us to do. We all want to be our own Boss. ‘That’s what sin is,’ she had said, ‘rebelling against God.’ I had laughed at her then, but now it began to make sense. Was there any hope for me? ‘God,’ I cried, ‘if you’re really there, would you help me?’ Later that night I was released.

A new start

I went to see a local pastor who explained to me that, yes, I was in a mess because like everyone else, I was a sinner and separated from God, and no, there wasn’t anything I could do to change the situation. But Jesus had to come to help sinners and because he had died willingly on the cross and risen from the dead, he was able to forgive me and give me a new start. What I needed to do was to stop living life for myself and start living life for Jesus. To stop doing the things I knew were wrong and to start trusting him. Well, I prayed to Jesus and asked him to forgive me and committed my life to him.

Now Jesus is My Boss

From that day my attitude and behaviour began to change. It was really like being born all over again! Now, years later, I can tell you that Jesus has totally changed my life. I’ve still encountered the usual difficulties and problems, but Jesus has helped me overcome them. Joining a lively church where people trust Jesus and care for one another was the next vital step – just like becoming part of a big family.

But most important of all is the relationship I now have with Jesus. Now Jesus is my boss, he cares for me and he’s always with me. I would love to tell you more – why not give me a ring?
